David Dougherty: Director of the Skills4Life Program
Dougherty, who is a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major, served for 25 years, receiving countless awards from the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (w/3 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/3 OLC), to many others. Dougherty entered the Army in 1991 and served in various leadership positions until retiring as IMCOM 3-5-7 Sergeant Major in San Antonio, Texas. His military and civilian education includes all levels of the Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Class 62).
Additionally, he is a graduate of Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Air Assault School, the U.S. Army Ranger School, Malaysian Tracker Course, and the Australian Jungle Course. His deployments include to Ukraine, Baltic countries, Haiti, Afghanistan x 2, and 15 months in Iraq during the serge. Dougherty, his loving wife and four children have made San Antonio, Texas their home for the last 10 years.
In 2010, prior to his director role, Dougherty was a volunteer at the foundation for 11 years. He instantly knew this was something he wanted to do once retired. Inspired by the foundation’s support of our nation’s heroes and their families, he is honored to be a part of the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
Pierre Cardenas: MBA, NCCO
Pierre has 34 years in the financial industry at both credit unions and banks. He has held executive level positions in organizations from $140 million to a billion in assets. Pierre has built and managed consumer, mortgage, indirect and commercial lending programs, along with establishing innovative remote delivery channels and retail branch strategies.Pierre started his own business, “Innovators of Change”, in 2008, while serving as the Senior VP of Retail at a $540M credit union.
In 2010, he consulted, presented, and trained in credit unions across the country, specializing in innovative lending strategies, workflow efficiencies, advanced underwriting solutions, sales training, and loan portfolio management & evaluation. In January of 2015, Pierre took over as CEO of Capitol Credit Union in Austin, Texas, a $135M credit union. As CEO of Capitol CU, he continues to serve the credit union industry by periodically training, speaking, and consulting in addition to overseeing a Marriage and Family Counseling non-profit organization he and his wife founded in 2013.
